Well, all did not go exactly as
planned, and after a discouraging weekend, all is back
on track. Lance and Carla are both being discharged tomorrow,
Wednesday 1/14/08, and are very excited about it! They
will be staying with Lance's Grandma in La Habra, about
15 miles from the medical center, and can continue their
physical and occupational therapies with the burn specialists
at UCI Medical, as well as their physician follow-ups
with the same brilliant doctor. The doctors and therapists
will never guess at how long that will take (since all
patients are different they don't like to give estimates)
but it continues until they reach a certain functioning
level, and we're hoping it will only be a few months.
They are very motivated! When their medical care demands
decrease, they will be coming back to Santa Barbara,
but again, we have no specific date for that.
They have
made amazing progress these past two months, and being
discharged tomorrow is a wonderful new level in their
recovery!
